Northwell Health Care is a health care platform put in place to help people in New York. There are many packages that answer to the needs of their workers. It is also a great way for workers to save money while enjoying excellent medical care.

Other packages are available and can be explored at your leisure. With Northwell packages, you will get every necessary thing you need at a token.
Northwell is one of the largest private medical employers in the state of New York. It commits to helping people.
There are many benefit package put in place for people. There is comprehensive coverage for welfare services. Note that there are terms and conditions and they are;
- You must be a full or part-time member.
- You must be scheduled to work for a minimum of 5 of the full-time equal (FTE) per week.
- You must work for 8 of full-time equal (FTE) for a bigger benefit.
- Temporary team members cannot benefit.
- The employees who work less than 5 FTE are temporary team members. They work 0.5 FTE or 30 hours on average in a year.
- You are eligible to go to the Health Insurance Market place if you are temporary.
- You can consider COBRA as temporary team members.
- After you become eligible, you are considered for the benefit-eligible dependents. This is done under Northwell’s team member benefit plans.
Spouse benefits
Your spouse can benefits coverage through his/ her employer. You can also choose to cover them under your Northwell medical plan.
Note that you will be subject to a surcharge which is $1,140(pro-rated per pay period). This will be done annually.
The team members in the greatest benefit group will elect his/ her medical coverage at a higher cost. This will only happen if you marry another Northwell who is a non-union benefits-eligible team member.
There is no option to select if your spouse in the lower benefit group. There is no option to elect as a single.
Children benefit
There is no option to elect as an employee with children. However, there is coverage for children up to age 26. They might be natural, adopted, or stepchildren. Their coverage is until the last day of the month in which they turn 26.
There is coverage for children that are not married on or before the age of 26. They are the children who are not capable of self-support.
There is however self-support for dependents. From the 1st of the month, it will begin and will go on until the 32nd day of employment. Coverage ceases for you and your dependents on the last day of the month you resign.
At the end of a contract with the company, you may be eligible to benefit COBRA. Life insurance concludes on your last day of employment or if you have a long or short time disability.
Note: Northwell will audit your dependent information. New employees must submit proof of dependent. The proof includes the certificate(s) of birth.
The old employees must also respond to the periodic audits on time. Failure to respond may stop the dependent(s) benefit.
You must register yours and your dependants Social Security number in mySelfService. The new IRS reporting requirements will record it.

- Click on dependent’s name.
- Know their Social Security status.
- If their Social Security is missing – hit edit.
- Save it.
- Make sure your name is recorded.
- Record the name(s) of your dependent(s).
- Make sure it is the same when you file your taxes with IRS.
Enrolling in your benefits
New team members must elect or waive health and welfare benefits. This must be finished within the first 30 days of employment. New hires will receive email notification of completion. This is usually done in their first week of hire.
This email notification contains their Universal ID. It also contains their password and ESS key. For help call the Information Services Help Desk at 516-470-7272.
How To Take part in Your Benefits If You are a New Hire
- Log into mySelfService.
- Use your ID.
- Use your password.
- Use the ESS key.
- Select myBenefits.
- Select Benefits Enrollment.
Old team members can enroll for benefit waive. They can change their benefit elections the same way new hires can.
The old hires can follow the same process but only within two weeks. The period will be active around November or December.
And it is the official time for open benefits enrollment. Your benefit will roll over automatically each year.
This will take place if you don’t change your elections in the previous years. It can also happen if you do not waive your elections from the previous years.
Flexible Spending Accounts do not rollover. You can only enrol if you qualify for Life Event. You can waive and change if you qualify for Life event.
Changes can only be done when certain life situations happen. This includes;
- A change in dependent status.
- A change in marital status.
- A change in family coverage due to dependent’s coverage.
- A change in employment status.
Benefit Groups and Location Classifications
Your contributions towards the cost benefits depend on;
- The coverage you select.
- The coverage you select for your dependents.
- And your coverage depends on your date of hire.
- It depends on your benefits group.
- It depends on the location of your work.

Medical Plans
There are a number of medical plans on Northwell’s scheme. They are all administered by UnitedHealthCare.( UHC). These plans are:
Northwell Health High Deductible Health (HDHP)
UnitedHealthcare and Health Savings Account administer it. (HSA). It is designed for the people using in -system. It is also designed for in-UCH providers. It is perfect for those looking for how to save for medical expenses in the future. These plans have higher deductibles than a traditional health plan, and it has a lower premium. You are required to have an HSA when covered by HDHP.
Northwell Health Value plan
It is designed for those who use the in-system providers and Northwell facilities. It is also meant for those who will like to access out-of-system care.
Northwell Health Buy-Up Plan
It is designed for people who do not use in-system providers only. You will pay a lower deductible if you seek care outside the in- system often.
You will pay a lower co-insurance if you seek care out of the in-system often. It is lower compared to the Value Plan, and you can pay more through paycheck deductions.
Out- of-Area Plans
Northwell assigns team members living outside their primary service area a health plan. This plan is determined by zip code and Out-of-Area (OOA) plans.
You can choose either the Value or Buy-Up-Plan if you are considered OOA. You will be subjected to lower out-of-pocket costs for some in-network services provided.
There are two primary differences. They occur if you are undergoing an elective hospitalization. You can use an in-UHC network hospital, and it is better than using in-system. It is $0 co-pay.
With primary Care/ Specialist co-pays, it’ll be $20/40, rather than the deductible/co-insurance. Deductible will determine testing and procedures always.
Testing and procedures will continue to be determined by co-insurance.
A service provider may contact you or your dependant. This is when you or they enrol in a Northwell medical plan.
The service provider may be a team member; he will give you information and will provide help. He will also support you and give you directions on how the usage of plan benefits work.
You will not be fined any fee for cooperating with the service provider. The service is voluntary. Your personal information on health provided is voluntary.
It will not be used for anything outside the services provided.
Wellness Credit Program
You can take part in Wellness Credit. This is when you enrol in any medical plan choices. The medical plan is divided into three, and you must complete four wellness actions. The wellness actions include;
A mandatory Health Risk Assessment (HRA). This is in exchange for paycheck credits. It totals $1,560, which is $390 for each action per year. It equals $15 bi-weekly paycheck and also $16.25 per semi-paycheck.
